Current Plans for the James J. Hill Building

Hill eventually built himself a new office building and used his previous office building for the enormous quantity of records this meticulous man retained. The Burlington Northern Railway continued to use the building for record storage until the early seventies. The Hill Office Building has been vacant for about 30 years.

The building is well suited for housing with large windows that will bring lots of natural light to the units and high ceilings that give a feeling of great spaciousness. The original rooms are simple and well-proportioned. The courtyard is a special amenity that provides a private outdoor space in downtown Saint Paul. In addition, the upper floors have excellent views of the river.

The condo units feature all the benefits of new construction. The design concept is to maintain as much wide open living space as possible along the outside wall while still providing contemporary kitchens, bathrooms, walk-in closets and laundries along the inside wall. These units will truly be the best of the old and new.
